In this hands-on course, you’ll learn essential navigation skills using maps, compasses, and GPS devices so you can confidently travel through unfamiliar terrain. Discover how to: • Read and interpret topographic maps • Use a compass to determine direction and bearings • Calculate distance and estimated travel time • Identify landmarks and using GPS coordinates • Understand terrain features • And if you are temporarily misplaced, what to do. There will also be in-class and outside practice to try out your new skills. Whether you’re hiking, camping, hunting, or just love exploring nature (kids included!), this course equips you with the knowledge to stay found—or get un-lost—no matter where adventure leads. Bring your ‘orienteering’ compass and GPSs.
