In this fun and social class, you’ll learn Western dance favorites like the Cowboy Cha-Cha, the 10-Step Polka, the Nightclub 2-Step, and a touch of Salsa! Whether you’re looking to wow a crowd at a wedding or spice up date night, this class is perfect for ages 16 and up. No experience necessary—just bring your energy and get ready to dance! 9 hrs

Surprising Elements (of the periodic table) NEW!

How many elements can you name? How many have you held in your hand? How can charcoal, diamonds, and graphite all be the same thing? Why do we use aluminum to build airplanes? Which metallic element can be cut with a knife, or is liquid in your hand? This class explores the elements discovery, their properties, and examples of how we use them in our everyday lives. Digital and hands-on resources will be used to understand the properties of the elements, depending on their safety for students of this age. Students will learn basic safety procedures and, if they want, begin their own collection of the periodic table of elements. A $15 supply fee payable to the instructor at the first class covers supplies for these experiments and projects. Ages 10-14. 10.5 hrs

Fiber Arts Lab: Bring Your Projects!

It’s time to get assistance with crochet, knit, tablet weaving, bobbin lace, embroidery or any other needle art project. Bring a project you just can’t seem to finish — or get started on those favorite gifts. For those who have always wanted to learn how to crochet, the time is now, with hands-on-instruction. Beginners will learn basic stitches and finish a scarf. Bring size 4 light color crochet yarn (not variegated or multi-colored) size G, H, or I crochet hook (with a wooden or rubber handle), small scissors and knitting needle size 8. Appropriate for ages 15 and up (10 and up welcome with an accompanying adult). 12 hrs

Basic Dog Obedience Training: Introduction to Good Manners (NEW!)
with CALLIE BOYD
Positive reinforcement training encourages your dog to learn and creates a relationship of mutual respect between you and your canine companion. Learn the basics of dog manners, including cues such as sit, stay, down and how to manage behaviors such as jumping and leash pulling. This class uses positive reinforcement, reward-based training with treats and praise. Bring a leash (4 ft or 6 ft, no extendable leashes, harness is preferred, flat collar accepted), lots of soft treats, poo bags and your dog’s current vaccination records; dogs must be current on vaccines. Please wear comfortable, weather appropriate clothes and shoes. You will go home with a complete training book, whistle, and a clicker. Appropriate for dogs 10 weeks and up. If your dog has displayed any aggressive, reactive, or extreme fear behavior with other dogs or people call Zia Dog Training at 505-801-4699 before signing up. $15 supply fee payable to instructor at the first class. Appropriate for 18 and up, accompanied minors are accepted. Registration is limited to two people per dog, with the same person attending all sessions. First session is an orientation for people only, no dogs. All persons who attend the class must be registered through San Juan College. 6 hrs
