Introduction to Batik: Creating Art with Wax and Washes

SharQui—the Bellydance Workout®

SharQui (pronounced Shar-Kee’) is not a traditional belly dance class, but a fitness class with authentic belly dance moves that are simplified then gradually layered together until you’re dancing a belly dance routine. Class starts with a gentle warm up, moving into low-impact belly dance cardio, and ends with a relaxing stretch. This is for everyone who wants fitness and fun in their workout. Bring a project you just can’t seem to finish— or get started on those favorite gifts. For those who have always wanted to learn how to crochet, the time is now, with hands-on-instruction. Beginners will learn basic stitches and finish a scarf. Bring size 4 light color crochet yarn (not variegated or multi-colored) size G, H, or I crochet hook (with a wooden or rubberhandle), small scissors and knitting needle size 8. This contract class is developed in conjunction with the San Juan Center for Independence to familiarize students with a gym facility, experience a physical exercise program, and develop personal fitness interests.
Begin class with a group warm-up and conclude with group stretching. Develop your individualized workout pattern, whether that includes learning how to use weights, stopping and starting the treadmill, or creating some variety in your routine. Class will emphasize safety throughout and includes an HHPC membership for the duration of the class. Caregivers are expected to attend and assist as requested by the instructor.
